It would. I didn't say that there wasn't more than one way to do it. However, like all module, this prevents the rewrite the code over and over in different scripts and by different people.

would not this code with the standar Getopt::Long do the same ?

use Getop::Long;
my $string = '-opt1 val1 -opt2 val2 -flag3';

     local @ARGV = split / /, $string;
     $result = GetOptions (...option-descriptions...);
