Why? What is wrong with FTP/WebDAV/SMB/sFTP/etc.?

Do you need triggers from file system changes? Do you want to provide a
custom file explorer of some kind? Is it because the explorer is to be
integrated with a Perl web app? Why do you need Perl here?
