hmm, I'll check that later.
In the meantime:

perl a.pl always workes I only have trouble when trying to execute
./a.pl in /var/www

I even tried to create the file in /home/gabor/ and then copy it to
/var/www without success.

On the other hand if I MOVE the file from /home/gabor to /var/www then
it works well.

So now I have a workaround but I still need to understand what is the
problem. As I said I'll check the SELinux thing (which is enabled on
this server)
